Fortnite – Why Do Your Kids Love It?

As parents, you need to have an idea about what games your children are playing. If you are a parent of teenage or pre-teen children, chances are you have heard of the game Fortnite. It is insanely popular among gamers across ages.

If you are a gamer yourself, you know enough about Fortnite and how to moderate your child’s game time. Otherwise, this article is right here to help you. This is for parents who want to know everything about Fortnite and why their kids are hooked to the game.

Where can you access the game?

One of the major reasons why Fortnite is so popular is accessibility. You can play it on various platforms –PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox, iPhone. Shooting, survival, and exploration of the map are the central themes in Fortnite.

In a match, 100 players are dropped off on a map. Players can play in 3 modes – solo, duo, or squad. The objective is to fight the rest of the players, acquire weapons, and stay alive until you are the last and only player alive.

Do you have to pay?

Fortnite is free to play the game. This means that there is no upfront cost involved. You can download it for free. However, there are virtual items in the game that can be bought with V-bucks.

These items are not free, but you can use a Fortnite hack to get free V-bucks in your account. Visit if you want to give that option a go, it’s not without risk though, so be aware!

For instance, there are different costumes, equipment, and dance moves that are available at different prices. You also have limited time offers to buy these items at a discounted rate. If missed, they can be expensive based on their popularity.

You may want to monitor/moderate your child’s purchases in the game. On gaming consoles and the iPhone, you can use parental controls to fully restrict your child from purchasing anything. This may not be possible on a Mac or a PC.

Things to take care of

Like most of the online video games, children can socialize with other players on Fortnite as well. In the solo mode, the player cannot communicate with anyone. In the duo and squad modes, you can chat with your teammates.

It may not be practical to restrict your child from chatting with anyone on the platform (although there is an option for that – disable voice chat). To play the game well, they should interact with their teammates.

Rather than completely cutting them off from the other players, educate them about the dangers that strangers pose. Teach them what details they can share and what they cannot on the platform.

If you are concerned about the violence factor, there is no need to be worried. Yes, there are weapons and players shoot each other. However, unlike some other games that show graphic imagery of blood, etc… here the killed player just drops down and disappears from the screen.

If you are still not convinced, you can try and play the game along with your child. First-hand experience will make you aware of what your child is up to. You can then be assured that your child is having a good time.
